Valhalla is a Halo 3 map used in Red vs. Blue, serving as a primary setting during the events of the The Recollection. Like Blood Gulch, Valhalla was considered to be one of the main outposts of the Reds and Blues.
Role in Plot[]
Valhalla was originally one of the many isolated areas chosen as the setting for staged battles between assigned teams of simulation troopers under the Red and Blue banners, while in actuality being means of testing the effectiveness of the Freelancers. The two teams were locked in an ongoing stalemate, until one day, a Pelican randomly crashed into the canyon nearby the Blue Base. Due to its proximity, the Blues were the first to investigate the crash site, after which the Blues seemingly began turning on each other, including destroying their own communications tower, until all activity from Blue Base seemingly ceased altogether Curious of the situation, members of Red Team were sent to investigate, only to discover the entire Blue Team had seemingly killed each other, with their equipment destroyed. The Red scouts also discovered the body of another soldier in black armor, seemingly dead as well.
Following the investigation, members of the Red Team soon began acting strangely, seemingly possessed at random by an unknown force one after another. As order quickly collapsed at Red Base, things soon grew worse when an unknown party seemingly raided the abandoned Blue Base, before attacking Red Base and killing its occupants as if it were seeking something. Only one Red Team soldier, Private Walter Henderson, survived the attack on Red Base by hiding in a nearby cave, later being escorted out by the Freelancer Recovery Force to report on what happened to Command.
Following the infiltration of Freelancer Command by Agent Washington and the Red and Blue teams of Blood Gulch, the latter were "reassigned" to the leftover Red and Blue bases at Valhalla to continue their "military exercises". Red Base had been left without power, as a result of parts from the crashed Pelican having become lodged in its exhaust port, while the Blue Base was still functioning. Grif would manage to dislodge the wreckage and restore power to Red Base (nearly at the cost of his own life), while Caboose, the only Blue actually stationed at Blue Base, attempted to use parts from the derelect Pelican and Tex's empty body to build a body for the Epsilon A.I., but to no avail. With the power restored, Sarge and the newly arrived Lopez constructed a highly-sophisticated holographic chamber underneath Red Base, allowing Sarge to test the concept of his improved Warthog design. This is quickly followed by the arrival of Private Donut, who despite his desperation to relay a distress call, immediately passes out from dehydration.
Upon regaining consciousness, Donut finds Caboose and passes along the distress call from his old teammate Tucker. Despite not understanding the situation, Caboose is quickly convinced by Epsilon's memory of the Delta A.I. fragment to seek out Tucker, as it could potentially lead to a way to restore Epsilon to full functionality. By coincidence, Sarge discovers that his attempts to delete the Blues from Commands records during their previous infiltration have in turn left them unable to achieve a legitimate logistical victory, and deduces that by assisting Caboose's mission to find Tucker, Command would discover this gap in their records. Caboose, Sarge and Grif depart from Valhalla (by driving off into the ocean), leaving Simmons, Donut and Lopez as the sole occupants of Valhalla.

Not long after, the Meta reappears in canyon, and immediately begins hunting down the remaining Red team members. When all seems lost, Agent Washington reappears, but then reveals that he is working with the Meta in search of the Epsilon Unit. Washington shoots both Donut and Lopez (seemingly) dead, and takes Simmons (and later Doc, who arrives answering to the distress call for Donut) hostage. Upon returning to Valhalla, Sarge and Grif rescue Simmons, while Epsilon experiences several flashbacks, in which he thinks he sees a dark figure; he misunderstands these for "psychic visions".
It later is revealed that he isn't psychic but is just having flashbacks, the dark figure is Tex, and the memories actually took place at Sidewinder, not Valhalla. Not long afterwards, Donut reawakens, having not been actually dead but merely trapped in recovery mode, and is soon joined by Doc, with the two making a modest living alone in the Canyon.
In Season 10, the team, led by Carolina, decide to head back to Valhalla to find clues to locate the Director, and are shocked to find Donut still alive. After finding more clues, the Reds and Blues decide to stay at Valhalla, refusing to aid Carolina and Epsilon in their plan to kill the Director, knowing if they leave the location, things will only get worse. However, when Doc later gives them a rallying speech about how much they have changed and they all got what they wanted in the end, the group decide to go rescue Carolina and Epsilon, stealing the UNSC Police's hornets to get to their location quicker (ironically leaving Doc behind). When the Reds and Blues opt to return to Blood Gulch, Donut opts to return to Valhalla and was dropped off first, continuing to live with Doc until the two of them and Lopez left for Chorus.
In The Shisno Paradox, Tucker and Sister arrive in Valhalla in an unknown period of time, given Tucker didn't find the crashed Pelican, and Sister stated the location was refurbished into a group of condos after Donut, Lopez, and Doc had left.
Trivia[]
- In reality, the location of the Red and Blue bases featured in the series are swapped when playing Halo 3, with the Red base residing near the waterfall and the Blue base residing near the open ocean.
- It was speculated that the use of a Pelican as the ship featured in Season 5 was the result of Rooster Teeth being given an exclusive preview of Halo 3 by Bungie during its development, revealing the crashed Pelican in Valhalla and inspiring its use for the following season. Series creator Burnie Burns debunks this rumor in the Reconstruction DVD Director's Commentary, claiming it was purely coincidental.
- The Halo 3 map "Isolation" appears to be adjacent to Valhalla. In Revelation, Grif drives a Warthog through the wall, creating a hole and allowing passage between the two areas.
- When Doc healed Donut after the events of Revelation, Doc and Donut made a hut near Valhalla's Red base and began living together in it.
- When the teams left Valhalla in Reckless, the camera pans over the map and certain areas, similar to when the camera pans over Blood Gulch in Have We Met?
- In Reconciliation, on Donut's Basebook profile, there's an image of him and Doc in Valhalla, which is represented by the Halo 4 map, Ragnarok, a recreation of the Halo 3 map.
