Unreal Engine

The Unreal Engine is a game engine developed by Epic Games and has been used in numerous video game genres such as platformers, fighting games, first-person shooters, and MMORPGs. It has recently seen adoption by many non-gaming projects, as it has been made available to download for free since 2015, with its source code available on a GitHub private repository. It has been used in several popular media, like The Mandalorian and Westworld.

The engine has been prominently utilized in Red vs. Blue: Zero for both fight animation and machinima, which in itself is animated to resemble movements similar to Halo machinima, in order to achieve the feel of the previous seasons. The crew had also managed to make a way to animate characters using game controllers, and brought back machinimators Joshua Ornelas and Austin Clark to use their expertise for that. It has since become the primary animation software used for Red vs. Blue, being used in various special episodes since Zero's release.
