Plot[]

A frenzied Carolina awakens in a hospital with a cast on her arm. She yells out "David!" as the medics try to calm her down. Shatter Squad rush to Carolina's aid upon hearing her screams. Carolina explains to the team about Viper's tactical attack on Falcon Base and that they successfully stole the alien artifact. She also acknowledges their unique armor abilities, which they used to quickly defeat her and Wash in battle. When Axel asks what they should do, Carolina examines the profile of each member of Shatter Squad, to see what she has to work with.

Axel - a current AOD weapons expert with a wife and child at home and, as Carolina assumes, a couple of "boy scout merit badges". West - Shatter Squad's father-like tactical leader and actual father to... East - a rebellious and competitive woman with a unique armor ability as well as, as Carolina strongly assumes, daddy issues. One - a headstrong and impulsive woman with the potential of becoming the next leader of Shatter Squad, but struggles to work on a team. And finally, Raymond - Shatter Squad's newest member with extremely impressive technological skills and a desperation to fit in with the others.

East and One express confidence to take on Viper but Carolina assures them that they'll need more than just willpower and attitude to beat them. As a result, West decides to return to Falcon Base with Raymond to investigate it but finds that the rookie wants to charge his phone before leaving. Annoyed, West shoots and destroys the charging station, and tells Raymond to gear up.

In a nearby hangar, East and Axel meet with Tiny, an extremely spunky mechanic who agrees to spruce up their warthog. As East leaves to train by herself, Axel advises her to follow Carolina's instruction and train with him and One. In the training arena, Carolina confronts One and asks her why she's on Shatter Squad, sensing the soldier's lone wolf characteristics. One explains that she wants to beat the individuals who were strong enough to beat Carolina. Carolina, however, believes that One, deep down, knows she can't win on her own. As she leaves to oversee the training, Axel and East join One and the three begin their training session, fighting against several robotic guards and self-automated turrets. One and East quickly take out the turrets by fighting their own way while Axel destroys the guards. In a disappointed tone, Axel tells the girls that the guards were first priority while the turrets were second before joining Carolina in the spectator box. As One and East prepare for a second round of training, Carolina asks Axel where he found the two.

Elsewhere, Zero and Phase approach the entrance to a large temple. They use the alien artifact they stole to gain entry and are greeted by several alien Guardians, who attack them. Meanwhile, West and Raymond break into Falcon Base and gain access to the base's VISR cam servers. Raymond then explains that he accessed everyone's personal records and asks West why he placed his daughter East on the same squad as him. West reveals that when East was dying he gave her up to the Alliance of Defense to have them save her life. Back at the training facility, Axel continues the story, explaining that AOD took East to Starlight Laboratories, who experimented on her and saved her life. However, the experiments gave East the side-effect of "Burst Step", a super speed ability. Axel then explains One's story - her parents were elite members of the AOD before they were killed, so Axel took her in as one of his own.

Back at the temple, Zero and Phase work together to defeat the alien Guardians. Concurrently, One and East fight individually to defeat the training bots. Worried about Viper's actions and Wash's safety, Carolina is determined to get Wash back. Axel assures her that Shatter Squad will have her back. Carolina then disintegrates her cast and challenges One to hand-to-hand combat. One goes at her confidently, but Carolina quickly knocks her down. Carolina then challenges both One and East to fight her at the same time. As a result, the two charge at her together.

Trivia[]

  • In the official season trailer, West gives a soldier a Rocket Launcher, whereas in this episode West gives the same soldier a Hydra Launcher.
  • The song during the montage is a temp track that the crew liked enough to include the final cut.[1]
  • Axel's name is misspelled on Carolina's cast and datapad - spelled as "Axle" instead of "Axel".
  • There are specific lines heard in the trailer that weren't heard at any moment in the episode, such as West saying "Stand up straight." to an Alliance of Defense soldier when handing him a Hydra Launcher and East saying "Did you miss me?" while behind a training drone.
  • Carolina references Guy Fieri when reading about Raymond, as well as him hosting cooking shows.
  • The 'Wait what?' gag returns in this episode, when Raymond asks the question after Carolina finishes reading the dossier.
  • Axel states that he had a lawnmwer called the "Millennium Falcon 3000" which is a reference to the Millennium Falcon, a YT-1300 light freighter modified to act as a gun/smuggler's ship from the Star Wars franchise.
