"I said freeze, dirtbag!"
—Max to Grif & Church in K.I.T. B.F.F.

Lieutenant Max Gain was the commanding officer of the Red Team stationed at Sidewinder.

Role in PlotEdit

Gain managed to capture Grif and Church in Episode 38 of The Blood Gulch Chronicles. He assumed both were Blue soldiers and imprisoned them at his team's outpost. It is unknown if he was present on Sidewinder during Church's time "stationed" on the planet. Gain was later killed by Wyoming along with the rest of the Sidewinder Red team in You're the Bomb, Yo

Behind the ScenesEdit

Original ConceptEdit

According to the DVD commentary, Gain was originally planned to have a much larger role in the series. However, in the midst of having to condense the amount of plot into different episodes and yet make the deadline for the Halo 2 launch, Rooster Teeth decided to omit most of his appearances.

  • Max Gain appears briefly in a deleted scene featured on the Season 3 DVD.
  • Before Season 12, Lieutenant Gain was the highest ranking Red soldier seen in the series and tied for second-highest ranking simulation trooper overall with Miller, with Captain Flowers the highest.
  • Gain, along with Miller and Flowers, is one of the few commissioned officers in the series known to serve as a simulation trooper.
  • His name Max Gain could be a reference to Max Payne
