Plot[]
At 1800 hours after their mission to intercept Viper, Shatter Squad return to base angered and disappointed after having failed and West left injured.
During said mission, at 0900 hours, Raymond, One, and East pursue Phase and Diesel. Phase uses her Combat Knife to infiltrate Shatter Squad's vehicle and proceeds to battle them inside. As One and East awkwardly fight Phase, Raymond struggles to drive. Phase easily gains the upper hand and knocks East out of the car. When Diesel attempts to ram East with his truck, East jumps onto the truck's roof and shoots at him. Using her blade, Phase teleports herself to the truck's roof and proceeds to fight East one-on-one. While East puts up a good fight, Phase ultimately bests her, knocking her off the truck and onto the road. As the two vehicles zoom away, East uses her Burst Step to catch to them. One tells Raymond to slow down so East won't overexert herself but East tells them not to. Raymond slows down regardless, allowing East to regroup but Viper to escape.
Back at the base, at 1815 hours, East begins to take her anger out on her teammates, which angers One. As Axel steps in, East, One, and Raymond berate him for being absent for most of the battle. With West in recovery, Axel decides that they stop pursuing Viper, believing that they're in over their heads. East then questions if Axel knows Zero, which Axel hesitantly admits that he did. Angered with Axel's dishonesty, One, East, and Raymond storm off. Axel is left ashamed of himself.
Returning to the mission, at 0900 hours, Axel battles Zero's army on the roof. Zero flees and shoots at West's warthog. Forward in time at Viper's secret base, at 1930 hours, Zero speaks with Phase about her weakening "echo" and explains things will be easier with West injured. Phase angrily threatens him, wanting to deal with West herself, but Zero threatens her back with his Key.
Back to the mission, at 0915 hours, Shatter Squad struggles to catch up to Viper. Luckily, West accelerates straight towards Viper's truck on a Mongoose, in an attempt to ram them head on. West hops off his mongoose and activates a Domed Energy Shield, causing Viper's truck to crash into it and go flying into the air. Unfortunately, West is knocked out by Zero, prompting Shatter Squad to open fire. When Zero uses his Key to defend himself, Shatter Squad charge at him individually. Phase and Diesel watch from afar, with the artifact they stole in hand. Zero skillfully outmatches each of them in combat and proceeds to taunt them while they're down. Shatter Squad gets back up, still not fighting as one, and Zero just as quickly knocks them down again, taunting them in the process. He then delivers a final threat before leaving with the rest of his syndicate.
Back at the base, at 2100 hours, Carolina comforts One and the two take a walk to recovery, passing by Raymond and Tiny working on Armor Enhancements. At the recovery ward, Carolina tells One about Washington - his struggles, his resilience, and his decision to continue helping people. One then explains that Zero defeated them by using a glowing sword which he referred to as a "key". In response to this information, Carolina freaks out and tells One that they must save Lavernius Tucker. One, unfortunately, is left confused as to who that is.
