The Battle Rifle is the primary weapon of most characters in Red vs. Blue. Since the Halo 2 engine didn't have the assault rifle, the staff switched to the battle rifle for most characters to wield instead.
Almost every character has been seen wielding it, including: Simmons, Grif, Lopez, Donut, Tucker, Washington, the Insurrectionist Leader, and most Freelancers. Other characters, such as Church, Sarge, Caboose, and Sister, have also been seen wielding the battle rifle at one point.
While almost every character is seen wielding the Battle Rifle, Washington stands out as one of the most proficient users of said weapon, being his main weapon of choice and his skills with it unmatched; his marksmanship with it being almost impeccable. This seemed to have even been acknowledged during the heyday of Project Freelancer, as his symbol on the Leaderboard was a Battle Rifle. One of the stand out moments showcasing his skills with it is in taking down two hornets, once by shooting at its cockpit while free falling in The Sarcophagus, and shooting a fusion coil in midair as it passed by the aircraft in Reconstruction: Chapter 14.
