<p>No, I don't think so and I certainly hope not. Rooster Teeth has stressed the fact that Church is gone and that his characters has been retired. I mean, every time we see him In Season 17 it's with Genkins voice. Not a single scene has Church with his voice.  </p><p>And Church is my favourite character but everything he's done and gone through and with his sacrafice at the end of Season 13. It would ruin it all to bring him back. It would make everything pointless.   </p>

<p>Let me preface this by saying: I believe Church is gone for good and will most likely only make the occasional flashback cameo like he did in Season 15. Pretty clear Burnie's been trying to retire this character since the Blood Gulch Chronicles. We'll always have Lopez. </p><p>That all being said, it would be great if Epsilon-Church returns even briefly; at least to give Carolina closure and say her goodbyes like Caboose did for S1 Church. Caboose was easy: he just needed Church in any form so he could do it. Carolina bonded with Epsilon and lost the closest thing to family, with the Reds and Blues coming in second. This is unlikely to impossible, as Hodgepig pointed out, because Burnie made the announcement that Epsilon was permenantly retired. </p><p>But that's for Epsilon. The truth is nothing was stated about Alpha. He may have died in the Emp explosion, but we don't actually see that happen with him or the other AI fragments, we just see the EMP taking effect as the field expanded. It's a plausible plot point that he can be rescued before the actual Emp occurs. Not only would it bring back the return of Alpha, but the others like Delta and Theta.This is just me speaking but I want to see Sigma as a proper main antagonist present-day. His machinations from the past events felt like we didn't get to really see him at full enemy. It'd mean the return of the Meta, possibly, but not as Agent Maine, but as someone else; like Sigma takes over Wash or Carolina and it becomes a head-struggle for control as the Reds and Blues try to save them. It was easy since Maine was a meathead, but against tacticians like Wash or Carolina, that would be an interesting psychological battle in every sense of the word. I mean, why not? We did conspiracies, to civil war, to "dopplegangers", to even time travel. Why NOT mind battles at this point? That's outside of all their comfort zones: Wash because of his trust issues, Carolina because she's a warrior, and the Reds and Blues because... well c'mon. </p><p>But again, I need to stress: despite what I wrote, I fully believe we've seen the last of Church back in Season 13. He's not coming back. I'd love for him to return to the team, but the series made it clear they're sick and tired of his "resurrections" (even though technically he never resurrected once). Caboose's goodbye was also the final nail on that coffin too. </p>

They specifically said Church is retired as to speak of both of them, Alpha and Epsilon, being retired. </p><p>I'm all for mindgames but please for the love of god it shouldn't be by bringing dead characters back. RvB has had a hard time moving the story forward. Seasons 11-13 were fantastic becasue they weren't tied down by anything from the past but then Season 15 happened. I will say right now that I love Season 15 but it really bothered me that the villains were made because of Project Freelancer. We were done with Freelancer and suddenly here we are back to it to some degree. </p><p>Now, Season 16 and 17 have certainly moved on and that is a good thing, even if half of us agree that Season 16 was...to put it nicely...complete shite. </p><p>As I said I'm all for mindgames and moral battles and so on but please don't do it by bringing dead characters back. It harms a series to do that over and over again.  </p>

<p>Like I said from the start: I fully believe Church (as Alpha or Epsilon. or however else) is dead and gone for good. He's a memory (fitting since that's technically what Epsilon was) and one that shoould be remembered fondly. </p><p>Only reason I brought it up was because, as you said, mindgames. RvB is good at that and as long as they keep pulling moves out of left field like they do, ANYTHING is possible; especially since we're dealing with time travel (and now multiple pardoxes). </p><p>As for Project Freelancer, you gotta remember that in the end, that's the core of RvB. It's the reason they were in that canyon. It's the reason the agents were all messed up. It's the reason the AI existed. If you want to answer to "Ever wonder why we're here?" The answer will always boil down to Freelancer. That being said, I don't really seeing it as "going bacl" to it. I se it more like, "tyling up loose ends." For the Chorus Trilogy it was their equipment and for Season 15 it was the other Red and Blue teams. The other agents are implied to be dead, but there's the possibility another Freelancer agent not yet revealed will make an appearance, either as an ally, enemy, or supporting character. Unlikely, I know, but the point is there's always plot holes waiting to be filled as far as Freelancer is concerned. </p><p>I guess I'm the other half of who likes/hates Season 16 because I enjoyed the hell out of it. Grif was the main character, Huggins was adorable, Donut got his own fight scene RvB style, pizza, and Sister came back as a regular character too! Not the BEST season, sure, but still a good one! </p>
